Why is demand for rail transport continuing to grow?

03-02-2026

Since Rail Bridge Cargo was founded, we have seen clear and sustained growth in demand for rail transport. This development is no coincidence. Various global factors are making rail transport a logical choice for more and more companies.

One important influence is the geopolitical situation. For example, tensions around the Suez Canal, including attacks by Houthi rebels, are causing disruptions in shipping. This leads to detours, longer sailing times, and higher costs. Companies are therefore looking for more stable alternatives.

At the same time, air freight prices remain high, while sea freight is struggling with long and variable transit times. Rail transport is positioned exactly between these two modes. On average, rail is twice as fast as sea freight, while it can be up to 65% cheaper than air freight.

In addition, sustainability is playing an increasingly important role in logistics choices. Rail transport emits up to 27 times less CO₂ than air freight. This is an important consideration for companies with sustainability targets or reporting obligations.

Rail is also gaining ground in terms of reliability. Transport via Rail Bridge Cargo has proven itself in recent years with stable transit times and various route options. This makes rail not only an efficient but also a predictable solution in a turbulent logistics world.

Rail transport has thus grown from an alternative to a strategic choice.
